Una de las bandas más grandes del Heavy Metal, Judas Priest, lanzan una gran caja recopilatoria de edición limitada que incluye todos los álbumes oficiales de estudio y en directo además de 13 CD no publicados anteriormente. Este es el lanzamiento más extenso de música inédita que la banda haya hecho de su amplio archivo: un verdadero tesoro para los fans. Restaurado y mezclado por Tom Allom en La Cucina W8 y masterizado por Alex Wharton en Abbey Road Studios. Este lanzamiento especial saldrá a la venta el 15 de octubre de 2021 a través de Sony Music.

Esta caja recopilatoria especial llega mientras la banda por fin tiene la oportunidad de celebrar su 50º aniversario con un concierto en el Bloodstock Festival en Reino Unido, y el lanzamiento de la gira norteamericana este otoño de The 50 Heavy Metal Years Tour viene impulsado por el álbum de Priest mejor posicionado en las listas en la carrera de la banda, «Firepower», que alcanzó el #5 en la Billboard 200 y el #5 en Reino Unido.

Judas Priest se formó en 1970 en Birmingham, Inglaterra (un lugar que muchos consideran la cuna del Heavy Metal). El núcleo original de músicos cambiaría la cara del heavy metal. A lo largo de los setenta, Priest ayudaron a abrir el camino del Metal con clásicos como ‘Sad Wings of Destiny’ (1976) ‘Sin After Sin’ (1977) y ‘Hell Bent for Leather’ (1978) al igual que una de las mejores grabaciones en directo del género ‘Unleashed in the East’ (1979) entre otros.

Fue durante los ochenta cuando Priest conquistó el mundo al convertirse en cabeza de cartel en los estadios de todo el mundo con clásicos atemporales como ‘British Steel’ (1980) y ‘Screaming for Vengeance’ (1982), además de ser una de las primeras bandas en ser acogidos por la entonces floreciente MTV y ofrecer algunos de los mejores conciertos de la década (Monsters of Rock de 1980, US Festival en 1983 y Live Aid en 1985), siendo también los primeros en vestir solo cuero y tachuelas; un look que comenzó en esta época y continuaría siendo utilizado por los «metal heads» de todo el mundo. El éxito de Priest siguió a lo largo de los noventa y más allá con la incorporación del batería Scott Travis, como quedó demostrado en lanzamientos estelares como ‘Painkiller’ (1990) ‘Angel of Retribution’ (2005) y ‘A Touch of Evil: Live’ (2009), el último de los cuales les valió un Grammy por su impresionante versión del clásico ‘Dissident Aggressor’.

En 2011 el nuevo guitarrista Richie Faulkner entró a la banda para reemplazar a KK Downing, que se había ido en 2010: este movimiento revitalizó a la banda tal y como quedó demostrado en la cautivante actuación en la final de ‘American Idol’, que también sirvió como la primera presentación en directo de Faulkner con la banda (también en 2011 se publicó una nueva recopilación, ‘The Chosen Few’, que incluía clásicos de Priest seleccionados por algunos de los nombres más importantes del Metal) y el DVD concierto ‘Epitaph’ en 2013.

El siguiente álbum de estudio de Priest llegaría en 2014, ‘Redeemer of Souls’, que promocionaron con otra gran gira. En 2017 (y otra vez en 2019) Judas Priest recibió una nominación para el Hall de la Fama del Rock and Roll mientras se preparaban para lanzar su álbum de estudio más reciente ‘Firepower’ (producido por Andy Sneap y Tom Allom) que fue un éxito de crítica y público. En 2020 se publicó un libro fotográfico oficial y autorizado: ‘Judas Priest: 50 Heavy Metal Years.’
